 You can become a sportsperson without formal qualifications. But, having a high degree of understanding in your chosen sport is vital. People who play in a team sport will come under the guidance of a coach who's job is to help develop and refine their skills. Individual sportspeople typically find an expert coach who can help them to reach elite level. Students who are at school may elect to develop their skills by enrolling in a sports specialist high school which combines regular school subjects, as well as athletics coaching and competitions in a range of sports.Many sporting associations offer training to future top-level athletes in specific disciplines. Training is also available in related areas such as coaching, sport development, refereeing/umpiring and sports administration.Sportspeople may study courses in sports-related areas such as sports science, human movement studies, physiotherapy, sports administration, sports coaching, sports journalism, physical education and sports psychology.
